Not at all! At Super Mandarin, many of our students are from non-Chinese-speaking families. Our beginner-friendly classes are designed to make learning fun, engaging, and effective, even with no prior experience. We use songs, stories, games, and real-life communication to help children build confidence from day one.

Learning Chinese also offers many long-term benefits — it enhances memory, strengthens problem-solving skills, improves focus, and opens doors to future global opportunities. Plus, it fosters cultural curiosity and empathy.

Depending on each student’s learning progress and the level of support provided by their school, students may be eligible to participate in formal Chinese language assessments in Australia in the future, such as NAPLAN language assessments (if applicable), the Confucius Institute Chinese Test (YCT/HSK), or school-based achievement benchmarks.

根据学生个人的学习进展及所在学校的支持程度，未来他们有机会参加澳洲各类中文水平测试，如孔子学院主办的YCT/HSK考试，或学校内部的语言评估项目。这有助于系统评估学习成果，并为将来升学或奖项申请提供支持。

We teach Mandarin Chinese, the official language of China and is spoken by the majority of the Chinese population. It is also one of the official languages of Singapore and Taiwan.

As for Cantonese , this is primarily spoken in the Guangdong province of China, Hong Kong, and Macau. It is also spoken by many overseas Chinese communities. However, we can assist learners who speak Cantonese to learn Mandarin by our cantonese teacher.

We understand that many parents are initially more focused on speaking and listening, especially when the child is still young. In our early-stage classes, we do prioritise listening and speaking through songs, games and conversations.

However, over time, learning to read and recognise characters becomes essential for children to truly retain and use the language long-term. Reading supports vocabulary growth, improves memory, and strengthens their connection with Chinese culture. Even basic literacy (recognising characters, understanding pinyin) helps children become more independent in their learning.

So yes — we start with listening and speaking, but we encourage all families to gradually build reading and writing skills as the child grows.

我们理解，许多家长初期更关注孩子的听力和口语，尤其是在孩子年龄较小时。我们的启蒙课程也会以歌曲、游戏、日常对话为主，帮助孩子打好听说基础。

但从语言发展的角度来看，长期只学听说是不够的。随着年龄增长，识字和基础读写是帮助孩子真正“记住”和“用好”中文的关键。读写不仅能扩展词汇量、提升记忆力，还能加深孩子对中文文化的理解。哪怕是初级的认字或拼音，也能让孩子在学习中更有自主性。

因此，我们会以听说为起点，但鼓励家长随着孩子成长，逐步引入读写内容，让语言学习更扎实、更有延续性。

Many parents around us often complain that they were initially concerned about their child falling behind in English after starting school, so they focused heavily on their child's English learning from an early age, but neglected or missed the optimal time for their child to learn Chinese. Some parents also mentioned that their child intermittently attended Chinese tutoring classes before and could manage simple communication, but as they reached the sixth or seventh grade and faced the demands of schoolwork, they gradually forgot the basic communication skills and characters they had previously learned.

If a child establishes a strong foundation in Chinese listening and speaking skills from an early age, while also developing good reading and writing abilities, learning Chinese becomes much more efficient. Once the foundational stage is missed, learning Chinese becomes more challenging.

常听身边的家长抱怨说，一开始担心孩子上学后英文跟不上，所以从小对孩子的英文学习抓得很紧，却忽略、错过了孩子学中文的最佳时机；也有的家长表示，孩子也一直断断续续地在补习班学过中文，之前也还勉强可以简单交流，可进入六、七年级后，由于课业繁忙，原来所学的简单交流、会认的字也都忘记。

如果孩子从小打下良好的中文听力和口语基础，培养好的读、写的能力，那么学习中文就会事半功倍。错过了打基础的阶段，再学中文就比较困难。

Learning Pinyin is an important component of enhancing Chinese language proficiency as it helps children better understand and use the pronunciation of Chinese characters.

Super Mandarin introduces Pinyin gradually, assisting learners in recognising the distinct phonemes in the Chinese Pinyin system compared to English, enabling children to gradually develop understanding and mastery of both language systems.

We encourage students not to overly rely on Pinyin to avoid hindering their learning of Chinese characters.

In terms of character recognition, we follow the requirements of the WA Curriculum guidelines and optimise the amount of character learning based on each child's individual foundation and needs.

Students often lack a Chinese language environment and have diverse cultural backgrounds, which can easily lead to feelings of difficulty and hinder their progress in learning Chinese. We encourage students to "learn to speak first, then learn about culture."

With the aim of cultivating interest and joyful learning, our teaching approach incorporates thematic activities, interactive experiences, and more, to stimulate students' interest, boost their confidence in expression, and foster effective communication.

Our Main Centre officially opened in 2025 at Unit 6, 300 Albany Highway, Victoria Park.

At present, we are not running classes in other suburbs.

Yes, you are welcome to take a break if needed. We understand that families may travel or have other commitments during the year. However, please keep in mind that language learning requires consistency. A long break may result in some loss of progress, especially in speaking and reading confidence.

We recommend that students review previous materials during the break, and we’re happy to provide optional revision resources to support your child at home. When you’re ready to return, we’ll help assess the best class level for your child.

1. What are the camp hours?

The camp runs from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM (7 hours total).

• Drop-off: from 8:30 AM （最早8:30送达）

• Pick-up: at 3:30 PM （请于3:30准时接走）

• Early drop-off (from 8:00 AM) and late pick-up (until 4:00 PM) available upon request.

2. What should my child bring each day?

Yes. Super Mandarin is a nut-free centre. No food containing nuts is allowed.
